In the traditional MATA NI PACHEDI art, the goddess is depicted in a vivid, colorful, and narrative style. The paintings serve not only as beautiful decor but also as a form of devotional practice, meant to bring peace, protection, and spiritual blessings into the lives of those who admire and worship these sacred images.

About the Artist

Sanjay Chitara is an award-winning artist from Ahmedabad who has grown up within the rich tradition of Mata Ni Pachedi art, a sacred cloth painting tradition from Gujarat. Originating with the nomadic Vaghari tribe, these cloths depicted the Mother Goddess and served as portable temples for communities excluded from mainstream worship. Chitara, deeply immersed in this heritage, has modernised the art form by introducing new colours, contemporary styles, and innovative storytelling while preserving the traditional techniques of hand-painting with natural pigments and intricate kalam work. He continues to sustain this sacred tradition by involving the next generation of his family in the craft.
